Indoor Localization Competition

Accurate indoor localization has the potential to transform the way people navigate indoors in a similar way that GPS transformed the way people navigate outdoors. Over the last 15 years, several indoor localization technologies have been proposed and experimented by both academia and industry, but we have yet to see large scale deployments.

Microsoft Indoor Localization Competition as part of IPSN 2016 aims to bring together real-time or near real-time indoor location technologies and compare their performance in the same space.

A poster session dedicated to all competition participants will be organized during the conference. Participants will have the opportunity to explain their system to conference attendees.

CPS Week 2015

Cyber-physical systems (CPS) are complex engineering systems that rely on the integration of physical, computation, and communication processes to function. Theories, algorithms, systems and methodologies developed for CPS are the foundations for applications like Internet of Things, industrial internet and automation, smart transportations, smart grids, smart cities, buildings and homes, data centers, health care, wellbeing and so on. Such systems must be operated safely, dependably, securely, efficiently and in real-time. Advances in this field will have great technical, economic and societal impacts in the near future. Since 2008, CPS Week is the premier forum for academic, industry, and governmental researchers to present latest research results and exchange ideas on all aspects of CPS.

CPS Week 2015 will be held in the beautiful city of Seattle, Washington, USA.

The event features four major collocated conferences:

HSCC: The 18th ACM/IEEE International Conference on Hybrid Systems: Computation and Control

ICCPS: The 6th ACM/IEEE International Conference on Cyber-Physical Systems

IPSN: The 14th ACM/IEEE International Conference on Information Processing in Sensor Networks

RTAS: The 21st IEEE Real-Time and Embedded Technology and Applications Symposium

In additional to major conferences, CPS Week 2015 will host workshops, tutorials, poster and demo sessions, competition, and PhD forums.

IPSN 2012

The 11th ACM/IEEE International Conference on Information Processing in Sensor Networks (IPSN) will be held in April 2012, Beijing, China.

IPSN is a leading, single-track, annual forum on research in wireless embedded sensing systems. IPSN brings together researchers from academia, industry, and government to present and discuss recent advances in both theoretical and experimental research. Its scope includes signal and image processing, information and coding theory, databases and information management, distributed algorithms, networks and protocols, wireless communications, collaborative objects and the Internet of Things, machine learning, and embedded systems design.

The conference features two interleaved tracks, the Information Processing (IP) track, and the Sensor Platforms, Tools and Design Methods (SPOTS) track. Authors should carefully review the intended foci of these two tracks to decide which track is better suited for their work, and they are encouraged to contact program chairs with questions or clarifications. As an example of the different foci, results focused on the analysis and processing aspects of data collected from deployments should be submitted to the IP track, while details on the hardware and software platforms and tools used in the deployment should be submitted to SPOTS.

The Information Processing (IP) track focuses on algorithms, theory, and systems for information processing using networks of embedded sensors. Topics covered in this track include, but are not limited to:
– Applications and deployment experiences
– Coding, compression and information theory
– Data processing, storage and management
– Detection, classification, and tracking
– Distributed algorithms and reasoning
– Distributed and collaborative signal processing
– Fundamental bounds and formulations
– Location, time, and other network services
– Sensor tasking, control, and actuation
– Network protocols
– Programming models and languages
– Innovative mobile sensing applications
– User interfaces for sensing applications and systems
– Innovative sensing platforms including crowd sourcing

The Sensor Platforms, Tools, and Design Methods (SPOTS) track focuses on new hardware and software architectures, modeling, evaluation, deployment experiences, design methods, implementations, and tools for networked embedded sensor systems.  Submissions are expected to refer to specific hardware, software, and implementations. Topics covered in the SPOTS track include, but are not limited to:
– Novel sensor network components, device platforms and architectures
– Embedded software for sensor networks
– Design tools and methodologies for sensor networks
– System modeling, simulation, measurements, and analysis
– Case studies that describe experiences, highlight challenges, and study/compare the performance of platforms and tools
– Network health monitoring and management
– Operating systems and runtime environments
– Simulation

RTAS'11 Track on WSN

The IEEE Real-Time and Embedded Technology and Applications Symposium (RTAS) is a highly selective forum for presentation and discussion of original research papers, covering all aspects of real-time and embedded computing theory and practice. RTAS’11, the seventeenth in a series of annual conferences sponsored by IEEE, will be held in Chicago, IL, USA, as part of the Cyber-Physical Systems Week (CPS Week), April 11-14, 2011.

CPS Week 2011 will bring together five leading conferences, namely the International Conference on Information Processing in Sensor Networks (IPSN’11), the International Conference on Hybrid Systems (HSCC’11), the International Conference on Cyber-Physical Systems (ICCPS’11), the Conference on Languages, Compilers, and Tools for Embedded Systems (LCTES’11), and RTAS’11. RTAS 2011 invites papers describing original contributions both to the state of art and the state of practice in the broad field of embedded and open real-time systems and computing.

The scope of RTAS 2011 will consist of the traditional core area of real-time and embedded systems infrastructure and theory, as well as two additional areas of special emphasis (specialized tracks): Hardware/Software Integration and Co-design, Wireless Sensor Networks.

WSN Programming Tutorial at CPSWEEK 2010

Another edition of the WSN Programming Tutorial will be presented in Stockholm as part of the CPS Week on April 12-16, 2010. Best Paper Awards at IPSN'09

ISPN’09 was held last month in San Francisco.  The conference featured two interleaved tracks, the Information Processing (IP) track, and the Sensor Platforms, Tools and Design Methods (SPOTS) track. Each of which selected best paper awards.

The former one had two nominations: one best paper award and a best student paper award, which correponded to: Secure and Highly-Available Aggregation Queries in Large-Scale Sensor Networks via Set Sampling by Haifeng Yu (National University of Singapore) and On Hierarchical Routing in Wireless Sensor Networks by Konrad Iwanicki et al (VU Amsterdam), respectively.

On the SPOTS track the award corresponds to Monitoring Heritage Buildings with Wireless Sensor Networks: The Torre Aquila Deployment by M. Ceriotti et al (Bruno Kessler Foundation / University of Trento / TRETEC)

Dead Reckoning for Fun

As is becoming a tradition, there will be an Extreme Sensing Competition at the IPSN ’09 Conference on April 13, in San Francisco, CA, USA.

In this opportunity the goal is to dead reckon on persons in a 10m x 10m arena, by using up to 7 sensors (5 of which can be body sensors and 2 ground fixed). The competition will be structured in two phases. Phase 1 is meant for guessing about other team deployment strategies while each system is reckoning on attendees. Phase 2 is for exploiting the opponent team system flaws — that could be guessed from Phase 1 — while system is now reckoning on contenders. Thus preventing the other teams from scoring more points.
